Valve released a Counter-Strike 2 update on October 14, 2026. Most of the visible changes are in the demo and replay viewer, plus smaller changes for the AUG, radio commands, community servers, mappers and the Vulkan renderer.
What changed
- Download progress: demo and replay downloads now show a progress bar.
- Camera controls: moving the camera in the demo viewer now works with click and drag.
- Paused demos: the free camera and chase camera now work while a demo is paused.
- Seeking: Valve fixed some minor problems when jumping to a different point in a demo.
- AUG: the standing and crouching reload animations now better match the AUG’s new reload time. The reload itself was made half a second faster in the October 8 update.
- Community servers: round backup files now need the -allow_round_backup_files startup flag on the game server.
- Radio commands: the allowed radio commands are now set by a fixed list.
- Also in this update: stability improvements for the Vulkan renderer, and a new toolsskybox_occluder material for mappers using the CS2 Workshop Tools.
What it means for you
If you watch your own demos or replays, they should be a little easier to use: you can see how a download is going, and you can look around with the free or chase camera without unpausing. For normal matches, the AUG change is only about the animation, since the faster reload came on October 8. If you run a community server that uses round backups, add the new startup flag.
